Position: Substitute Teacher

 

Responsible To: Building Principal 

 

Qualifications:

  1. Substitute Teacher Certification from DESE *Please do not submit an application until you have obtained your certificate* 
  2. Ability to communicate effectively  
  3. Basic Technological Skills  

 

Primary Responsibilities:

To provide students of the district with educational instruction which will foster and accelerate their academic, intellectual, physical, social and career development.  

 

Term Of Employment:

Base annual contract per approved school  calendar staff days.  

 

Compensation:

In accordance with the district approved certified payscale

 

Paid Time Off (PTO):

N/A    

 

Evaluation:

As approved by the Board of Education

Performance Responsibilities:  

  1. Follows instructional activities as left by primary instructor, or follows district approved curriculum

1a.  that contribute to a climate where students are actively  engaged in

     meaningful learning experiences. 

1b. Avoids teaching bias views, personal beliefs, or narrow political agendas

  1. Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with  varying

    backgrounds, learning styles, and needs.  

  1. Assists in assessments and changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement. 
  2. Maintains effective and efficient  record keeping procedures including electronic formats.  
  3. Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the  learning process.  
  4. Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other  professionals on a regular basis.  
  5. Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.  
  6. Models professional and ethical standards as directed in board policy when dealing with  students, parents, peers, and community.  
  7. Ensures student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group,  subject area, 

    and/or program classification.  

  1. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school  staff.  
  2. Participates in training opportunities as established by administration and Title I instructors. 
  3. Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: following meeting protocol,  honoring      schedules, meeting collaborative assignment deadlines.  
  4. Follows and abides by district adopted curriculum and pacing guides appropriately, as directed by district

      administration.

  1. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor. 



Supervisory Duties:

Will be assigned various supervisory positions as deemed necessary.

 

Skills and Abilities

Must be willing to learn and comply with district initiatives that involve technical and program skills.  Such as but not limited to Student Information Systems (SIS) and online curriculums, as well as proficiency with computer based communication expectations.

 

Attendance:

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Must follow district policy on employee absences. 

 

Computation:

Ability to define problems, locate and reference district and state level curriculum and, or learning standards, and draw valid conclusions. Demonstrate computer competency in a wide spectrum of functions, ability to provide support for the district inventory, and word processing technology programs including: demonstrated ability to learn and apply computer technology skills rapidly. 

 

Hearing:

Must be able to hear a conversation in a noisy environment .

 

Language:

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  • Communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. 
  • Present information to students in an organized, and professional manner, which appropriately conveys professionalism to students, parents, peers, and stakeholders. 
  • Read, analyze, and interpret administrative correspondence and directives as well as Board policy and handbooks.
  • Keep student information confidential according to FERPA when required by law.  




Physical Demands:

An individual who holds this position must frequently be able to move in and around buildings and grounds, attend meetings and supervise designated areas. Frequently required to stand, walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; use a keyboard and video display terminal. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. 

 

Technology:

Basic computer skills, ability to learn new programs quickly, and manage the following: Basic Computer Word Processing, Google Suites and others as deemed necessary.

The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees.

 

The individual who holds this position is occasionally, as designated in their contract, required to work irregular or extended hours for specific school events, such as school programs or conferences.
