Position: Special Education Paraprofessional

 

Responsible To: Special Education Director and Special Education Teacher

 

For Whom/What Responsible:

Responsible for the overall needs of Special Education student(s).

 

Qualifications:

  1. HIgh School Diploma
  2. Completion of 60 College Credits or Successful Completion of Para Praxis Test 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

This position assists the Special Education Teacher while working closely with student(s) to provide required services. Also to provide them with the physical help, academic help and social/emotional support they need. 

 

Term Of Employment:

Base annual contract per approved school  calendar staff days. These are to include Professional Development Days as deemed appropriate by the administration. 

 

Paid Time Off (PTO):

In accordance with this, the district adopted a paid holiday schedule. 72 hours.  No designation of sick or personal required.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel. 

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Accompanies the student(s) to whom assigned when trips to the office, the school nurse, or other places are necessary. 
  2. Attend work regularly.
  3. Comply with administrative directives. 
  4. Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies. 
  5. Enforces student discipline policies in and out of the classroom. 
  6. Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement. 
  7. Hears the student(s) in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks, guiding and helping them but not teaching them. 
  8. If needed, assists the student(s) assigned in such physical tasks as putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, using the lavatory, and so on. 
  9. Keeps track of assignments, due dates and completion of assignments. 
  10. Maintains courteous and professional relationships with pupils, parents/guardians, teachers and other employees of the district and all patrons of the district.
  11. Para supports the teacher’s direct instruction, which was introduced by the teacher. 
  12. Perform clerical duties as directed. 
  13. Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, staff and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner. 
  14. Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when work-load requires.
  15. Serves as a resource person, if and when requested, to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned. 
  16. Submit all required reports or paperwork at the time requested.  
  17. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.  
  18. Under the supervision of the special education teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher. 
  19. Other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned as needed. 

 

Supervisory Duties:

Will be assigned various supervisory positions as deemed necessary.

Attendance:

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position Must follow district policy on employee absences. 

 

Computation:

Ability to define problems, locate and reference district and state level curriculum and, or learning standards, and draw valid conclusions. Demonstrate computer competency in a wide spectrum of functions, ability to provide support for the District inventory,and word processing technology programs including: demonstrated ability to learn and apply computer technology skills rapidly. 



Hearing:

Must be able to hear a conversation in a noisy environment .

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

 

Physical Demands:

An individual who holds this position must frequently move in and around buildings and grounds, attend meetings and supervise designated areas. Frequently required to stand, walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. 

 

Technology:

Basic computer skills, ability to learn new programs quickly, and manage the following: Basic Computer Word Processing, and Google Suites.
